Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Basanta Kumar Nembang has instructed to not stop ride hailing services like Pathao and Tootle until necessary legislation is made.
Spokesperson at the ministry Rajeshwore Gyawali told Setopati that Nembang has instructed to allow operation of ride hailing services as it is now until new law is made during the meeting with director general and directors of the Department of Transport Management, and secretary and joint-secretaries of the ministry.
"Minister Nembang has instructed to not touch such service that is providing jobs to the youths and providing service to passengers," Gyawali stated. "He pointed that working procedure for transportation is being prepared and instructed to allow operation as it is now until law is formulated after adequate study."
The department issuing a notice on November 19 had warned that use of vehicles, registered for one purpose, for other purpose will be punished banning use of private vehicles to transport passengers collecting fare.
Taxi drivers had started to hunt those involved in ride hailing services, misbehave with them and hand them over to traffic police after that.
The taxi entrepreneurs organizing a press conference on Tuesday had warned that they are ready to fight even the government if the latter were to protect ride hailing services.
