The Udayapur District Court has sent a man, his father and kid brother to judicial custody for killing a wife after finding she was a dalit.
Registrar at the court Raj Kumar Acharya told Setopati that Man Bahadur Karki, Nain Bahadur and Govinda of Katari municipality 4 Simle have been sent to jail as available evidence does not provide grounds for their innocence.
The Area Police Office Katari had submitted investigation report to the District Attorney Office charging the trio of murdering Sangita Bishwokarma.
Govinda and Sangita were in a relationship that flourished through phone conversation. Sangita had lied she was Magar during the courtship. The duo married on October 15, 2017. It was later revealed that she was Bishwokarma.
The family convinced Govinda to murder her after that. Her body was found hanging on a tree in the Simle jungle on October 31, 2017. Acid was thrown on her face.
Her parental family had filed a complaint accusing the husband and family of murder immediately after the body was recovered. The Bishokarmas of Udayapurgadi-5, Bahunitar had tried to talk her out of the relationship but she had apparently convinced her parents that caste does not matter as they were in love.
DSP with Udayapur Police Prem Sagar KC said the Karkis had absconded after Sangita's murder and apparently lived in Darjeeling, India for a while.
The police arrested Man Bahadur from his home in Simle on December 8, 2019 after a tipoff that he had returned. Man Bahadur revealed that Nain Bahadur and Govinda were in Kathmandu, and the two were arrested from Kapan the very next day.
The three confessed of the murder during police investigation.
