Seven persons have been killed and 24 are still missing following landslides in Barhabise municipality of Sindhupalchowk Sunday morning.
Mayor Nim Phunjo Sherpa told Setopati that seven bodies have been recovered from under the rubble in ward no. 7 after the landslide following incessant rainfall. The bodies have yet to be identified.
He added that the landslide started from Nakchuchche of the ward and continued at different places till Barkharka.
Sherpa claimed that the place where landslides occurred this time were not deemed risky during risk assessment done after previous landslide. "We had found other places where there were cracks. We did not deem this place to be under risk for landslides," he stated.
He revealed that 16 houses have been destroyed by the landslides. Three persons have been rescued and sent to Kathmandu for treatment.
Security persons including police, army and the Armed Police Force are looking for the missing persons.
